Overview

Deceit Decline Dissolution is a work of fiction that tells a story about a very real place: the United States of America. It is a story of the current state of a country that is hopelessly divided politically, culturally, and economically. With power in the hands of liberal progressive politicians and bureaucrats driven by a powerful Woke minority, its present course points to an inescapable and chaotic end. The novel opens with the formation of a secret committee to take control of a physically and cognitively impaired President. Initiated by the current President's Chief of Staff and led by a former President, the members of the Committee have no choice but to act. They must maintain control lest the country fall into the hands of right-wing miscreants. The incumbent Commander in Chief is weak, confused, and erratic. He is buffeted by the whims of a Vice President, Cabinet members and advisors who range from vapid to vicious, misguided to Marxist, ineffective to ideological and who, without exception, are blinded by Woke ideology. The theories, strategies, objectives, and biases of the far left are expressed clearly and openly in policy meetings and casual conversations among elected officials, senior administrators, and bureaucrats. Their policy prescriptions are ineffective, ill motivated, counter-productive, and self-destructive. The characters reveal corrupt and self-serving motives and disturbing personality defects. They exhibit unquestioning allegiance to alternative histories, unsubstantiated claims of others' motives, opinions disguised as facts, and largely undefined goals of racial, gender and class "justice and equity," The effects of bad policies instituted by doctrinaire, corrupt and inept politicians have devastating effects on the citizenry. Suffocating regulation, abandonment of the rule of law, government overreach and illicit covert domestic operations inflict pain and suffering on the population. Their travails, and some of their responses, are illustrated in stories of real-life experiences of real-life individuals. Irreconcilable differences between two profoundly different views of history, contemporary reality, political philosophy, and cultural standards, push the states into five common-interest groups. On opposite sides of the divide, they move toward partition of the United States into several new nations. They would prefer to keep the union together, but without its crushing debt, irreconcilable political differences, and profound cultural divisions. But that preference is overwhelmed by acknowledgement that the preferred outcome is impossible. The novel ends in the White House situation room where the nominal President is brushed aside, China, Russia and Iran take aggressive military actions, the banking and financial systems collapse, exchange rates for the US Dollar plunge, commerce stops, riots, looting, hoarding, and crime erupt, three groups of states declare their independence, and what will soon be the former USA descends into utter chaos.
